Fair to say the few I captured for the terrarium last autumn did not appear to damage the overpopulation.Fertanishhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01071124453060492534noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30584505.post-8742006636295095242010-03-21T03:40:52.731-07:002010-03-21T03:40:52.731-07:00We always called those isopods "wood bugs&quo...We always called those isopods "wood bugs", but around here, half of them are the kind that roll up into a ball. Sometimes we call those "pill bugs". Others call them roly-polies (rolly pollies, too) or "sow bugs".

I'd never heard "potato bugs", but I wouldn't be surprised to find that every area of the English-speaking world has their own stock of names for them.Susannah Andersonhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11923063322849781223noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-30584505.post-36818737819709781172010-03-20T08:04:24.174-07:002010-03-20T08:04:24.174-07:00Absolutely 'frabjous!' day! I felt so at home on your trek through the woods - my sis and I did the same yesterday in our forest.

I think Beth is right - we have similar bugs we called 'potato bugs'. In Colorado the kids called them 'Roly Poly's'.

Wonderful post! When you touch them, they curl up into a ball. You can roll 'em along the ground and it doesn't hurt 'em.

(grin)

Have a wonderful week--what's left of it!Beth Niquettehttps://www.blogger.com/profile/12123973998090266918noreply@blogger.com
